Walk Easy 496 Forearm Crutches
There are so many types of crutches on the market these days, and it was really hard to choose which would be right for me, especially since I will be using them for the rest of my life. I wanted something light yet sturdy, comfortable, and not a hindrance like the traditional crutches the ER will send you home with after a bad sprain or break.
It was not until I was given a set of forearm crutches to use while practicing going up and down stairs during one of my PT appointments that I knew immediately that these were the crutches for me. I am going to talk about my likes and dislikes of the Walk Easy Crutches.
One of my favorite features of these crutches besides how light they are, are the anatomic grips. They are soft rubber, and latex-free that support your hand a natural way, and take the strain off your hands and wrists by distributing your weight over a larger surface area. This is what makes them so comfortable. Because the grips are made out of soft rubber they are easy to clean. No more hard-coated plastic or spongy covers that end up smelling and falling apart.
Because of the ergonomics on the 4” cuff section, the alignment of my arms feels more natural, allowing my arms not to get so tired and sore, which is great because I am up and around a lot. The cuff section is also adjustable allowing you to adjust the height of the cuffs to what feels right.
These crutches are made out of aluminum with an epoxy coating which makes them super light allowing for easy mobility. I don’t feel clumsy or awkward while moving about. Another cool feature is they have reflectors on the front of the grips as well as on the back of the crutch parallel to the grip. This is great for taking early morning or evening walks and knowing that you will be seen from both front and back views. Even though they are extremely light, they are super sturdy, and have a weight limit of 300 pounds. I have posted the specifications chart for you for all the detailed descriptions of the Walk Easy Crutches.
If you like loud, bright colors, or subtle colors they come in a wide variety of colors to choose from.
Now let me talk about what I don’t like about these crutches which isn’t a whole lot, but still worth mentioning. To change the length of the crutches on both the cuff section and length, you have to remove a clip that the pin is attached to. To be honest, it won’t be easy to remove if you don’t have strong fingers. I like to collapse my crutches and put them on the back of my wheelchair when I head off to physical therapy. When I collapse them all the way, there is nowhere to put the clips back on the crutches because there are no sizing holes available when fully collapsed. The problem for me is, that I lose things all the time. The fact that the clips can’t stay with the crutches leaves room for disaster if I lose or misplace my clips in transit. I know you may be thinking, put them in a safe place. This is me we are talking about, there is no safe place.
I would also like to mention if you will be using them for getting around with only using one leg like myself, it will take some upper body and core strength. However, if you will be using them just for some extra support while walking, upper body and core strength are not needed. I use them for both getting around with one leg as well as when practicing walking with my prosthetic leg.
This is my review after using these Walk Easy Crutches for two months, and I love them. I would give them 4.5 stars if I were to rate them. If you give them a try let me know what you think.
